At Lunar New Year each year, I often make (write) Fai Chun for my family, colleagues, and friends.
These are often made at their request.
I have also made up some myself.
Some of them are inspired by Yi Jing 易經.
Or Dao De Jing 道德經.
Or some other classics.
Some are about Service-Learning.
Many are about freedom, justice, compassion, peace of mind, …
Some can be interpreted multiple ways.
For example, one can be about good food and good drink, or the love of food and drink.
Some consider that part of the beauty of Classical Chinese.
One the one hand, it can be praised as brevity and conciseness. At the same time, pregnant with meaning. From another point of view, it can be considered ambiguity and imprecision.
I love the shape of the characters, the sound, the rhythm, and the richness of meaning.
