Our favourite Dim Sum place

There is a new dim sum place in Whampoa that has quickly become our favourite.  Since it opened a couple of weeks ago, we have been there so many times I have lost count.  The original shop apparently opened in Shatin a while ago, and have been well received. Hence this branch - right in our neighbourhood.

The food is good.  The people are nice and courteous.  Other than dim sum there is steam rice wrapped in lotus leaves. 籠仔荷葉蒸飯. Highly recommended.  My wife’s favourite is the 燉湯 (stewed soup).  Such as 黨蔘天麻川弓燉魚頭湯.

Mine is everything.  I wouldn’t mind having dim sum for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Sometimes I actually do.

We like to sit at a table near the entrance.  There we have witnessed interesting vignettes.

A man came to pick up a takeout.  In a minute he was gone.  Minutes later, another man came for his take out.  The waitress handed him a package.  It wasn’t his order.  What happened?  Perhaps the first man picked up the second man’s order?  Neither the first man or the waitress checked carefully.

What to do?  The boss lady apologised and ordered the kitchen to prepare the proper order for the second man.  It took time, and the second man sat down to wait.  Some time later, the order was filled and the second man was on his way.

Sometime later, the first man came back with the wrong order that he picked up.  He apologised for picking up the wrong order.  He explained that it was quite different from what he ordered, hence a clear mistake.  Otherwise he would ave thought there was a mistake in filling up his order and he would have eaten it without a word.  The boss lady apologised for giving him the wrong order.  His actual order was quickly filled.

But what to do with the wrong order that the first man picked up and is now returned?  The boss lady wanted to give it to the first man.  The first man declined saying that there was only him and his wife at home and they could not finished both orders.    The first man actually offered to pay for the wrong order if he took that home too, but the boss lady said there’s no need.  The the man offered to pay at least half the price if he took it.  Boss lady said he should take it without paying so the food would not go to waste.  Finally the man took both home. …

Throughout the episode nobody raised his/her voice.  Nobody complained or critiqued the other party.  Everybody was courteous.

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if more people behave like this?  Other than the food, the people is one of the reasons we like this place.
