The view from Tse Wan Shan 慈雲山
Today I ran up Shatin Pass Road 沙田坳道 to Shatin Pass 沙田坳. This is the way how people used to get to Shatin from Kowloon before the opening of Tai Po Road and the train linking Kowloon with the New Territories. Actually I only ran part of the way up Shatin Pass Road. At Tse Wan Shan Housing Estate it got so steep that I could only walk.
Today I did not go down to Shatin. Instead I continued on Shatin Pass Road, along Tse Wan Shan, behind and above all the housing estates. Tse Wan Shan is also called Temple Hill 觀音山, where there is a temple dedicated to the Kwan Yin 觀音廟.
I went to the point there Shatin Pass Road met Fei Ngor Ling 飛鵝山 Road and Jats Incline, and came down Jats Incline 扎山道.
On Tse Wan Shan, you get a panorama view of practically the whole Kowloon.
It stretches from Shum Shui Po, to Mong Kok & Tsim Sha Tsui, to Kowloon City, to Kowloon Bay, to Kwun Tong. And then, in the distance, of course, you see all of Hong Kong Island.
It was a sunny day, very hot. But it is also the kind of day when you can see very far, very clearly. That’s why I was there, melting. You can actually drive up there. But it just wouldn’t feel the same way.
